Alabama's Hall Trying to Emulate LSU Receivers' Blocking

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - DJ Hall is absorbing the Nick Saban message. Hall has a pretty clear idea of what Alabama's coaches expect from their receivers.

Catch passes? Sure. Rack up yards? That'd be great. Block hard on every play when you're not doing those two things? Definitely.

The Crimson Tide's top wide receiver quickly absorbed that message from watching tape of Saban's receivers at LSU and the Miami Dolphins.

And Hall actually sounds excited about the least glamorous part of his job. Hall says you kind of see the mind-set they have.

"Every single play they came off the ball hard," he says.

"They blocked the defender into the ground every single play. You look at that and you're like, 'Man, I need to step my game up.' It motivates you."

Hall says downfield blocking by the receivers has been more emphasized by Saban's staff this spring than it was in the past.

"If you aren't blocking now," Hall says, "you're about to get an earful."

Hall's 1,056 receiving yards set a school record last season, and his 62 catches was the second-most by a Tide player.

He said he will likely need surgery on a right shoulder that bothered him the latter half of the season. But he's waiting until after spring practices finish on April 21st so he won't get behind on learning the new offense.
