BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Auburn right-hander Paul Burnside fired
a complete game three-hitter to help them defeat LSU, 6-to-1, in the opening game of a Southeastern Conference series Friday.

Auburn (22-and-11, 2-and-8 SEC) ended a three-game losing streat to LSU after being swept at home by the Tigers last season. LSU (17-and-14-and-1, 3-and-6-and-1 SEC) lost its second straight game and its third SEC series opening game.

Auburn played aggressively, stealing five bases, including two from centerfielder Bruce Edwards.

Burnside (4-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and limited the Tigers to a run on three hits in nine innings of work. He walked two and struck out five on 108 pitches. He became the first pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game against LSU since Tennessee's Craig Cobb did so in Knoxville on April 8 of last season.

LSU plated their only run in the sixth on an RBI double by centerfielder Jared Mitchell. LSU left-hander Charlie Furbush (3-4) allowed six runs -four earned - on eight hits in five innings to get the loss.

Robert Brooks connected on an 0-2 pitch in the third for a grand
slam down the right field line.
