TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Bobby Greenwood clutched the inches-thick playbook after practice Thursday, making it clear what his plans were for the evening.

Greenwood and his Crimson Tide teammates are still learning the new system of coach Nick Saban and his staff at the midpoint of spring practices. But they get to demonstrate where they stand in that process when Alabama scrimmages for the first time Friday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Quarterback John Parker Wilson said the scrimmage is a chance to show not only the coaches but themselves how much progress the players have made and what areas they still need to work on.

The Tide has gone through seven practices so far, including Thursday's two-hour workout in shorts and shoulder pads.

Today's workout will be the first of two scrimmages before the concluding spring game. It will be closed to the public, like the rest of the Tide's practices.

Like Wilson, Greenwood said it will be a good experience for the players, who won't be getting constant guidance from the coaches.
