A proposed ordinance to outlaw the practice brought out more than two-dozen hunters to the Geneva County Commission Meeting. The matter often places the hunters at odds' with property owners. They're furious with a move to outlaw the tradition of deer hunting with dogs in Geneva County.
That practice was outlawed in Houston County years ago and it's also against the law in a portion of Coffee County.
The Geneva County Commission will not place the matter before voters this November. State game officers say the majority of the hunters do it the right way and that only a small portion of hunters creates a bad name for the sport.
Henry and Covington Counties are also considering measures to completely ban, or place restrictions on deer hunting with dogs.
