McCombs Leaving Geneva for Russell Co.

One of the most successful football coaches in Wiregrass area is changing jobs.

Geneva head coach Mike McCombs is leaving the Panthers for the head coaching job at Benjamin Russell.

News-4 spoke with McCombs on the phone Tuesday, he said it wasn't an easy decision for him, but that it's a good opportunity for he and his family.

McCombs coached at Geneva for four seasons. He was 37-10 overall.

The panthers had a perfect 10-0 regular season last year, finishing at 11-1.

McCombs says Geneva has been the first real home he's had in the coaching business.

If approved by the Alexander City School board, McCombs' last day at Geneva High will be Wednesday.

McCombs will replace Willie Carl Martin at Benjamin Russell. Martin is now an assistant coach at Alabama.
