East Regional: Georgetown 96 North Carolina 84 overtime
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Call 'em the Heart Attack Hoyas, and they're going to the Final Four for the first time since 1985.
Georgetown roared from a ten-point deficit in the final seven minutes of regulation and then scored the first 14 points of overtime to eliminate top-seed North Carolina 96-84 to win the East Regional. The Hoyas outscored the Tar Heels 15-to-3 in overtime. The Tar Heels didn't score until there was seven seconds left in OT.
Jeff Green led the Hoyas with 20. Tyler Hansbrough had 26 for the Tar Heels, who end their season at 31-and-7.
That sends the 30-and-6 Hoyas into the Final Four and a national semifinal matchup against Ohio State next Saturday. It's the first time that a father and son coach have sent a team to the Final Four. This Georgetown team is coached by John Thompson the Third, son of former Hoyas coach John Thompson Junior.
This was the second big comeback by the Hoyas this weekend. They rallied from a double-digit deficit to beat Vanderbilt 66-65 in the East Regional semifinal on Friday.
Midwest Regional: Florida 85 Oregon 77
ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Florida Gators moved a step closer to their second straight national championship by beating Oregon 85-77 in the Midwest Regional final.
Lee Humphrey nailed seven three-pointers and scored 23 points for the top-seeded Gators and Taurean Green added 21.
It's the 16th straight postseason win for Florida, which heads to the Final Four to play UCLA next weekend in Atlanta. That's a rematch of last year's national title game won by the Gators 73-57.
Aaron Brooks scored 27 points for third-seeded Oregon, which finishes the season 29-and-8. The Gators improve to 33-and-5.
