BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Samford catcher Luke Peavy had three hits and hit an RBI single to score pinch-runner Jonathan Lowrey with the winning run in Samford's 4-to-3 win over Alabama in ten innings Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs (10-and-8) handed the Number 22 Crimson Tide (13-and-7) its third straight one-run loss. Samford, winners of five of its last six games, scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and tenth innings for the win.
The Crimson Tide had 12 hits in the loss, but lacked the timely hit in its first loss to Samford in Birmingham since 1992. Alabama stranded 11 base runners and rapped into two double plays in the loss.
Samford first baseman Garret Rice drew a two-out walk in the tenth inning against senior right hander Bernard Robert. Robert allowed one run and one hit in two-thirds of an inning for his third straight loss.
