BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell did
not to participate in the agility drills or the bench press at LSU's "Pro Day 2007" this week, but he did show about 100 NFL managers, coaches and scouts, as well as the media, what they wanted to see: his powerful right arm.
The Mobile native, criticized for weighing 265 pounds and looking "soft" at the NFL combine workouts last month, was nine pounds lighter yesterday. And, since he didn't throw at the combine, it was important that he make an impression during a lengthy workout at LSU's indoor facility.
He did so, and may have solidified his spot at the top of the draft with a variety of passes to Dwayne Bowe, Craig Davis and Justin Vincent.
Russell, who was measured at just under 6 feet, five-and-a-half inches, also ran the 40-yard dash, clocking a time of four-point-83
seconds the only time he ran it. He said he shed nine pounds since
the February combine with some cardio work and by eating correctly.
