AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Ben Jones went 3-for-5 with a double and an
RBI in his first start of the season in Auburn's 11-0 win over Purdue.
Paul Burnside and Brett Butts combined on the shutout for the Tigers. Auburn's 16-and-2 start is the team's best since opening the 2004 season with the same record.
All 10 Auburn hitters had a hit and seven had RBIs.
Burnside (4-0) allowed five hits and three walks in five innings. Butts pitched the final four innings, allowing four hits and no walks for his second save.
Purdue (4-4) managed just one runner past second base as Auburn
had a pickoff, caught a man trying to steal second and turned a
double play.
Purdue starter Ricky Heines (2-1) gave up four runs on 10 hits
in four innings.
The Tigers will try to sweep the three-game series on Sunday.
