DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Former Atlanta Falcons player William Andrews has pleaded NO contest to misdemeanor theft by taking and paid 12-thousand, 500 dollars in restitution.
He entered the plea yesterday -- ending a criminal case that saw the one-time star play spend more than a year in the DeKalb County Jail.
Andrews was arrested in 2004 after a business client said Andrews took a 12-thousand, 500-dollar fee to secure a business loan. The client claimed Andrews did NOT produce the loan or a refund.
Andrews was freed on bond, but he returned to jail in April 2005 after missing a court date. He was again released on bond in May 2006.
Because he paid restitution, Superior Court Judge Clarence Seeliger did NOT sentence Andrews to any additional jail time or probation.
Andrews was an All-Pro running back who was known for charity work and was inducted into the Falcons' "Ring of Honor" in 2004.
