TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama football player Jimmy
Johns is going to jail for one year after pleading guilty to drug
charges.

A judge sentenced the former running back and linebacker during
a court hearing held Tuesday in Tuscaloosa.

The native of Brookhaven, Miss., apologized to his family and he
said he was sorry for hurting them, himself and the community.

The 6-foot-2, 233-pound Johns was No. 2 on the team in rushing
in both of his first two years at Alabama, but saw reduced playing
time in 2007. He was arrested in Tuscaloosa in June 2008 after
undercover police said they purchased cocaine from him several
times.

Coach Nick Saban kicked him off the team.
