AU backs have bit of thunder, lightning

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn's thunder and lightning backfield
combination is off to a roaring start.

Tailbacks Ben Tate and Onterio McCalebb both ran for 100-plus
yards in the Tigers' opener against Louisiana Tech.

The freshman McCalebb is the 164-pound speedster. Tate is 218
pounds and more of a bruiser.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik said having such a big style changeup
in the backfield can put pressure on the defense.

McCalebb ran for 148 yards to earn SEC freshman of the week
honors. Bo Jackson was the last Auburn freshman to gain 100 yards
in an opener.

Tate gained 117 yards and went over 2,000 for his career.

The Tigers host Mississippi State Saturday in the Southeastern
Conference opener.
