Raiders Return to the Playoffs?

The Houston Academy Raiders hope they’re poised to make yet another run to the Class 2A state playoffs.

Raiders fans got a chance to see their team in action in last week's preseason game. H.A> lost in the final seconds against Montgomery Academy.

But, a good nucleus is back from last year's 8-3 squad that made it to the second round of the playoffs.

On offense, the Raiders return their starting quarterback J.H. Johnson and leading running back Andrew Dauphin.

Head Coach Jimmy Addison says the team will just do what it does, hopefully well.

"We don't have a tendency to blow many people out because we can't score many points,” Addison said. “But, we try to limit the points the opponent scores. We've got to be sound in what we do because usually the teams we play have more athletes than us. I expect our guys to go out and play hard. I know our coaches will do a good job in getting them prepared."

Houston Academy opens the season Thursday, August 27th against Providence Christian. That game will be at Rip Hewes Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
