Seminoles' DL Academically Ineligible

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida State has lost a veteran defensive lineman for the season because of academics.

Seminoles' coach Bobby Bowden said Thursday that senior defensive end Kevin McNeil from Kingsland, Ga., has been declared academically eligible. McNeil entered fall camp projected as a starter.

A social science major at Florida State, 21-year-old McNeil had seven quarterback sacks among his 26 career tackles in 22 games. He missed the 2007 season.

Redshirt freshman Toshmon Stevens from Crescent City is listed as McNeil's backup on the Florida State two-deep depth chart.

Florida State opens its 2009 season on Labor Day in a nationally televised game against intrastate Atlantic Coast Conference rival Miami.
