DOTHAN, AL -- The Headland Boys Basketball Team made a furious fourth quarter rally against Hillcrest-Evergreen during Thursday's 4A South Regional Semifinal. The Rams, trailing for most of the game, pulled within one point with less than two minutes to play.
But, that's when the magic ran out for the Rams, as Hillcrest-Evergreen ended the game on a 10-2 run to pull out the 67-58 victory. With the win, the Jaguars advanced to face Wilcox Central for the 4A Regional Title, Saturday at 5:20 p.m. at the Dothan Civic Center.
Headland shot just 39 percent from the floor, but free throw shooting proved to be the Rams Achilles' heel. The Rams hit just 15-of-30 free throws, including four critical misses in the final minutes as the game slipped away.
Laquienton Prince had a monster game for Hillcrest-Evergreen (20-3) with 27 points and nine rebounds. Jahod Booker added 14 points for the Jaguars.
Justin Simpson led Headland (23-6) with 15 points. LeBrannon Nix and Jimmy Spann scored 12 points each for the Rams.
Wilcox Central - 60 Brewbaker Tech - 59
Wilcox Central's Jarvis Ross hit a free throw with two seconds left in the game, lifting the Jaguars past Brewbaker Tech 60-59 in a 4A South Regional Semifinal contest. With the win, Wilcox Central advanced to face Hillcrest-Evergreen for the 4A Regional Title Saturday at 5:20 p.m. at the Dothan Civic Center.
Ross' free throw capped a wild comeback for the Jaguars, who trailed by 11 points with less than six minutes to play. Freddie Smith scored 20 points and Ross added 14 for the Jaguars (23-7).
Anthony Satterwhite scored 14 points and Jaquillle Boswell added 12 points for Brewbaker Tech (22-9).
