SEC honors UA's Matthes, LSU's Coleman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's Kent Matthes and LSU's Louis
Coleman received top Southeastern Conference honors in baseball.

Matthes was named player of the year Tuesday while Coleman was
chosen as the top pitcher by league head coaches. Both were
unanimous selections.

Florida first baseman Preston Tucker and LSU reliever Matty Ott
were named co-freshmen of the Year.

LSU's Paul Mainieri was chosen as coach of the year. Ben Jones
of Auburn was named SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Matthes tied the Alabama single-season record with 27 home runs.
Coleman went 10-2 for LSU with a 2.99 ERA to lead the SEC in wins.
