Troy Trustees Approve New Arena

TROY, Ala. (AP) - Troy's board of trustees approved the construction of a new multipurpose arena. Trustees gave the go-ahead Friday to issue up to $57 million in bonds for the arena, a new dining hall and fraternity village.

The arena will seat 5,000-6,000 spectators for basketball games and be used for commencement ceremonies and other events. It might also include a student recreation facility.

Troy's 4,000-seat Trojan Arena was renovated before the 1998-99 season, including the addition of 1,000 seats. The university will begin advertising for architects in the next few weeks.

The Fraternity Village and dining hall are expected to go through the bid process within the next three months.
