Saban: McElroy is Alabama's most consistent QB

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama coach Nick Saban says Greg McElroy has been the most consistent passer during spring practice.

Saban said Thursday that McElroy has had a very strong spring.

He has been competing with Star Jones to replace John Parker Wilson.

The coach said it isn't critical to name a starter now.

Saban also singled out safety Robby Green and the receivers as positive surprises for the spring.

The Crimson Tide won't have its top two returning tailbacks for Saturday's spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Saban said Mark Ingram and Roy Upchurch will sit out with injuries. Ingram has a hamstring injury while Upchurch is recovering from neck surgery.

Receiver Earl Alexander also won't play in the game at Bryant-Denny Stadium because of a shoulder injury.
