TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Terrence Cody wants to be a slightly
smaller force on Alabama's defensive line next season.
The space-hogging nose guard has dropped a few pounds, worked on
his conditioning and hopes to keep himself in the game on
third-down passing situations - and improve his NFL draft stock in
The 6-foot-5 Cody said he has shed about 10 pounds down to 354
since the season. It doesn't seem like much shrinkage for the
massive lineman but he said it is already paying dividends in
Cody was often replaced by Josh Chapman on passing downs last
season but still fared well enough to earn first-team AP
All-America honors. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Cody can be
a stronger pass-rusher than his one-half sack last season would
Cody said improving as a pass rusher was one of his goals upon
deciding to return for his senior season despite being projected as
a likely first-round NFL draft pick.
