DOTHAN, AL -- The Abbeville Girls Basketball Team exploded for 46 second half points, rallying past Cottage Hill Christian 73-58 in the Class 3A Regional Semifinals on Thursday. With the win, Abbeville advanced to face Straughn on Saturday at 12:20 p.m. at the Dothan Civic Center for the Regional Title.
Cottage Hill Christian used a 22-point second quarter to take a 38-27 lead to halftime. That lead wouldn't last for long, as the Yellow Jackets outscored Cottage Hill 27-11 in the third period to take control.
Jasmine Griffin had a monster game for Abbeville, scoring a game-high 35 points. Nakia Kincey added 23 points for the Yellow Jackets.
Abbeville's defense was the key to the game, forcing 38 Cottage Hill turnovers. Those takeaways allowed the Jackets (19-6) to overcome 39 percent shooting, including just 3-of-19 from 3-point range.
Destiny Samuels had 16 points and 15 rebounds for Cottage Hill.
Straughn - 38 Daleville - 31
Jacie Williamson scored 21 points, leading Straughn past Daleville 38-31 in the 3A Girls South Regional Semifinals on Thursday morning. With the win, Straughn advanced to face Abbeville in the Regional Final on Saturday at 12:20 p.m.
The Tigers built an eight-point lead at halftime, but watched Daleville battle back. The Warhawks outscored Straughn 7-2 in the third quarter, pulling within three points.
However, Straughn (27-1) rallied in the final period, outscoring Daleville 11-7 to pull out the 38-31 victory. The Tigers won despite shooting just 28 percent from the floor, and getting outrebounded 42-20.
La'tia Fils-Aime led Daleville (23-6) with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
