Phelps Male Athlete of Year

UNDATED (AP) - Michael Phelps, the winner of eight gold medals
at the Summer Olympics in China, has been named the Male Athlete of
the Year by The Associated Press. His story of success has also
been named the AP's Story of the Year.
In winning the Male Athlete of the Year award, Phelps received
172 votes while runner-up Usain (yoo-SAYN') Bolt, the Jamaican
sprinter, received five votes and New York Giants quarterback Eli
Manning four.
The second biggest story of the year was the New York Giants'
upset of New England in the Super Bowl, which ruined the Patriots'
perfect season. The third-rated story was the saga of Tiger Woods
and his dramatic win in the U.S. Open.
