ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Mark Richt, who's in his eighth season at
Georgia, is moving closer to the top of the list of SEC coaches
with the longest tenure at one school.
With this week's news that Tennessee's Phillip Fulmer won't
return next season, Richt will trail only Auburn's Tommy
Tuberville, who is in his 10th year.
Richt says his plan when he left his former job at offensive
coordinator at Florida State was to make a long-term home in Athens
and that his contract is designed to keep him in Athens. And he
adds, "It's a very strong statement to say Georgia wants coach
Richt at Georgia and coach Richt wants to be at Georgia."
