Stallings' Story

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings has
shared his son's inspiring story at a Decatur church event and the
dedication of a Hartselle special-needs park named in honor of John
Mark Stallings.

The 73-year-old Stallings spoke to about 2,000 people attending
First Baptist Church of Decatur's "Friend Day" at Calhoun
Community College in Decatur on Sunday. He said the theme was
fitting because John Mark, who had Down syndrome, was his best

After the dedication in Hartselle, Stallings said that John Mark's impact and popularity amazed him.

He said he and his wife have received more than 1,400 letters
about their son since his death at age 46 three months ago.
