AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Bobby Petrino's return to Auburn coincides with the Tigers' recent offensive crisis. The former Auburn offensive coordinator will lead Arkansas into Saturday's game three days after coach Tommy Tuberville fired first-year coordinator Tony Franklin.
The last time Auburn was in such desperate need of an offensive
fix back in 2002, Tuberville hired Petrino to run the show. Petrino replaced offensive line coach Hugh Nall after his own one-year stint as coordinator. Coincidentally, interim coordinator Steve Ensminger handled playcalling duties during that season under Nall.
The mid-week move does have the side benefit of deflecting talk from Auburn's embarrassing courtship of Petrino back in 2003 just before the Iron Bowl.
