TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama coach Nick Saban calls his new No. 1 tailback "Mr. Consistency."
Glen Coffee has shown he can block and catch passes along with carrying the ball and being that steady presence in the backfield. All that has plenty to do with why he beat out last year's leading rusher Terry Grant for the starting job leading up to Saturday's opener with No. 9 Clemson.
Coffee rushed for 545 yards last season. He was hampered by a shoulder injury and a four-game suspension for violating NCAA rules
by using their athletic scholarships to obtain free textbooks for other students.
Saban has listed Grant and freshman Mark Ingram as vying for the No. 2 spot, ahead of Roy Upchurch.
