New Starters Try to Shine in Florala

Stan Gooden takes over the Florala Wildcats football program this season. He's filling the shoes of Arlton Hudson who led the Cats to the second round of the playoffs last season.

The Cats finished the 2007 campaign with a 9-3 record. This year's squad will have to compete, as always, with Brantley for region supremacy. Plus, Ariton and Geneva County may have something to say about the region race.

Gooden says he lost a dozen seniors off of last year's team and will have to start over.
"Basically, we're rebuilding,” Gooden says. “We're very young. Not a lot of experience returning. We only have two returning starters. Basically, everyone who will be playing football at Florala will be a first time player this fall. But, they’ve been real receptive. They've worked hard this summer. We've got a little to build on this fall."

Florala has an open date in Week 1. The Cats open the season at McKenzie on September 5th.
