It's t-minus three weeks and two days until the start of the football season. We continue our look at local teams with a preview of the Houston County Lions.

The Lions have a new coach this season, but hope to keep their same winning ways. Jerrod Wooten takes over a program that was 7-4 a year ago and made it to the 2A state playoffs. That was under Greg Gibson.

This year's squad will have a different look to it. But, Wooten says he won't shake things up too much.

"We won’t make a lot of wholesale changes to some of the things they've been doing, Wooten said. “But, we want to try to fine-tune some things. And, we will add some of our own schemes here and there. We've got a lot of players coming back and we want to take advantage of what their talents are."

Houston County hosts Ashford in week one. They play a day earlier than most teams, on August 28th.

Houston County starts the year ranked 6th in the Class 2A poll.
