Monday was the first official day of high school football practice. At Dothan High, the Tigers are breaking in a new head coach. Former Birmingham Southern assistant coach Kelvin White is opening his first fall camp with the Tigers.
For the Tigers' seniors, it's their third different head coach. Last year, the tigers finished just 1-9 under Jim Scible. He resigned after two years at the school.
But, it's a new start for White and this year's Tigers squad. There's plenty to get to in the month of practices.
“I could not sleep last night I’m so excited,” White said. “These kids are excited. We got about 85 kids out. We’re going to get after it and try to get better each day.”
White said he plans to make the most of the month’s worth of practices. “The practice tempo will be a little different than what they’re used to. But, hopefully they can fight it off the heat and give great effort every play and try to get a little better.
Dothan opens the season at Eufaula on August 29th.
