Former Bama Pitcher Tommy Hunter Called Up to Majors with Rangers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama pitcher Tommy Hunter is set to make his first major league start.

The Texas Rangers called Hunter up to the majors Thursday. He makes his first start Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Hunter becomes the 55th former Alabama player to reach the majors and the first to play for the Rangers.

He was the 54th overall pick in the 2007 baseball draft.

Hunter has made eight starts since being promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma this season.
