'Bama Relying Heavily Freshmen for Quick Help

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama veterans have been impressed by the latest freshman class during summer workouts.

It's a good thing, too. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban says the development of the young players will be a big factor in how the team fares this season.

Seniors Antoine Caldwell and Rashad Johnson have both praised the freshmen's maturity and work ethic.

The Tide officially reports Thursday and fall camp begins on Friday.

The freshman class was rated best in the nation by many recruiting services.

Among the key members who appear to have a chance for quick playing time are receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Jerrell Harris.
