Bush Has Encouraging Words for U.S. Olympians

WASHINGTON (AP) - Calling the members of Team USA "ambassadors of liberty," President Bush has given the American athletes a rousing White House send-off to next month's Olympic games in China.

About two dozen athletes joined Bush in the Rose Garden today.

The president, who will attend the opening ceremonies and the first few days of the games in early August, says he is "fired up" to watch some of the competition. And he's urging the Americans to "compete swifter, higher and stronger."

The president and his wife, Laura, also are set to hold a White House dinner this evening to honor current and previous U.S. Olympians.
