TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - With decision time fast approaching, Ron Steele turned to a prominent NBA source for advice.
The Alabama point guard had a long conversation with Charlotte Bobcats' coach Larry Brown after his final NBA workout in Orlando just hours before Monday's deadline for underclassmen to withdraw from the draft. Steele took the veteran coach's advice and opted to return for his senior season.
Alabama coach Mark Gottfried said Steele is 100 percent physically after surgery on both knees last year, but might need time for his game to fully recover as well. The All-SEC point guard in 2005-06 sat out last season.
Steele will team up with brother Andrew, an incoming freshman, for one season. His return offsets the departure of leading scorer and rebounder Richard Hendrix, who is skipping his senior season and entering the draft.
