TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama point guard Ron Steele got some 11th-hour advice from a prominent NBA coach.
Steele tells The Birmingham News that he spoke at length with Charlotte Bobcats' coach Larry Brown a few hours before the deadline for underclassmen to withdraw from the NBA draft.
Brown's advice: Go back to school. Steele says the longtime NBA coach told him he had NBA talent but that the league wanted to see how he fared over an entire season not just a few workouts.
Steele had surgery on both knees last year and sat out the season.
He talked to Brown after his final workout for a team Monday.
Steele is returning for his senior season. Teammate Richard Hendrix decided to remain in the draft.
