Whitehill's knee injury to keep Birmingham native from Olympics

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham native Cat Whitehill has sustained a knee injury that her father says will keep her out of the Olympics.

Phillip Reddick tells The Birmingham News that Whitehill's left knee buckled during a practice Tuesday with the U.S. Women's soccer team in Seoul, South Korea.

Reddick says an MRI revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Whitehill is a former Briarwood Christian High School star. She has played in two World Cups and one Olympics.
