Jade Todd to skip Alabama, sign with Detroit Tigers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama baseball recruit Jade Todd plans to skip college and play for the Detroit Tigers after being selected in the major league draft.

The left-handed pitching prospect Todd tells The Birmingham News that he has agreed to a contract with the Tigers, who picked him Friday in the seventh round.

Todd said the Tigers gave him a signing bonus that was exactly what he wanted to opt out of playing for the Crimson Tide.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Todd attended high school at Shades Valley in metro Birmingham. He was the sixth pitcher taken by the Tigers in the draft.
