MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama high school stars Destin Hood and Tyler Stovall have been chosen as second-round picks in the amateur baseball draft.
The Washington Nationals selected Hood with the 55th overall pick. Stovall went nine picks later to the Atlanta Braves.
Hood is also a wide receiver who signed to play football for the University of Alabama. He played shortstop at Saint Paul's high school but is projected as an outfielder in the pros.
Stovall was a left-handed pitcher for Hokes Bluff High. He was named Alabama's Mr. Baseball after setting state records for career wins and strikeouts.
