TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida State's Buster Posey couldn't have had a better season heading into Thursday's Major League Baseball draft.
The junior catcher leads the nation in hitting, on base percentage and slugging percentage.
Florida State coach Mike Martin said today someone will regret it if they don't take him Number 1.
Tampa Bay has the first pick. Posey -- a 3.8 scholar as a finance major -- is one of the five players the Rays are considering with that selection.
The others are Vanderbilt third baseman Pedro Alvarez, NCAA strikeout leader Brian Matusz of San Diego and a pair of 18-year-olds -- shortstop Tim Beckham of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Kyle Skipworth, a catcher from Riverside, California.
