OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Arizona State has beaten Alabama 3-1 in a first-round game of the softball College World Series at Oklahoma Series.
The Crimson Tide led 1-0 going into the seventh inning Thursday night. But the Sun Devils made Alabama pitcher Kelsi Dunne pay for intentionally walking Kaitlin Cochran a third time to lead off the inning.
Lesley Rogers doubled in Cochran with one out and then came around to score the winning run on Mandy Urfer's two-run double that nicked off third baseman Kelley Montalvo's glove as she dove into foul territory.
The Sun Devils had stranded 11 runners through the first six innings, failing to take advantage of seven walks and two hit batters, before finally making Katie Burkhart a winner.
Charlotte Morgan drove in Alabama's only run with a fifth-inning double, adding to her NCAA-best total of 76 RBIs. The Crimson Tide have lost their first-round game in all five of their World Series appearances.
