Fla. Atlantic Beats Middle Tenn. in Sun Belt Elimination

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Alex Silversmith's grand-slam home run capped a six-run seventh inning as Florida Atlantic eliminated Middle Tennessee from the Sun belt Conference Baseball Championships, 12-7.

Silversmith's homer off reliever Tyler Hyde was the third of his four hits. The Owls had trailed 5-3 early, but had seven hits and nine runs in the last three innings.

On Friday, the Owls (30-26-1) play the loser of Thursday night's game between Louisiana-Monroe and Western Kentucky. FAU must win twice Friday to reach Sunday's championship round.

Middle Tennessee (27-29-1) lost on Wednesday to Louisiana-Monroe and is out.

Tom Hatcher's two-run single in the ninth keyed a three-run inning in support of pitcher Michael O'Bradovich (6-4).

Chad Edwards (4-3) took the loss.
