Local Charges Dropped Against Suspended Seminole

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A petty theft charge has been dropped against Florida State receiver Preston Parker. But he must still resolve a more serious weapons charge in Palm Beach County before he can rejoin the team.

Parker paid $200 in court costs. And the 2006 misdemeanor charge of swiping a DVD movie from a Best Buy store in Tallahassee has been dropped.

His attorney says "the facts in that case were very weak."

Parker was arrested earlier this month in Palm Beach County on a misdemeanor charge of possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana
and the felony charge for allegedly having a loaded .45-caliber pistol in his car.

Florida State policy prevents any athlete facing a felony from competing. If the gun charge in Palm Beach County is reduced, Parker could be reinstated to the team with his discipline determined by the university.
