HATTISBURG, Miss. (AP) - Corey Smith, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Alabama, has signed a national letter of intent to play for Southern Miss.
Smith averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds for Pleasant Grove High School last season and was a three-time all-state player who finished with more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career.
He chose Southern Miss over Alabama State and is Larry Eustachy's second signee of the 2008-09 school year, joining Andre Jackson of Dallas, who signed in the fall.
Scout.com ranks him as the nation's No. 36 power forward. He does not appear in the Rivals.com rankings.
