Gottfried Suspends Tide Player Rico Pickett

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Freshman guard Rico Pickett might be finished with the Alabama basketball team.

Crimson Tide coach Mark Gottfried announced Pickett's suspension from the team Sunday night. The player's father, Rico Pickett, told The Decatur Daily on Monday that his son intends to transfer to another school.

Gottfried says Pickett was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. He says there are consequences when players failure to meet standards both academically and athletically.

The elder Pickett says his son's suspension was not related to academics. He says school officials suspended Pickett after he told them he wanted to go to another school.

Pickett played in all but nine of Alabama's 29 games this season, averaging about 6 points.
