AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Six former Auburn baseball players were on the rosters for Major League Baseball's Opening Day yesterday.
Clete Thomas (2003-05), who is on the Detroit Tigers' roster, is the latest former Auburn player to make it to the big leagues. Frank Thomas (1987-89), in his second straight season for the Toronto Blue Jays, is starting his 18th year of major league ball.
Other former Tigers on MLB rosters are Chris Bootcheck (1998-00) with the Los Angeles Angels, Gabe Gross (1999-01) with the Milwaukee Brewers, Tim Hudson (1996-97) with the Atlanta Braves and
David Ross (1996-97) with the Cincinnati Reds.
With Clete Thomas making his debut yesterday, Auburn has now had 30 former players make the big leagues.
