TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Matt Bentley had two home runs - including the game-winner in the eighth inning - to lead Alabama to a 6-5 win over No. 15 Ole Miss Friday night.
Josh Copeland (1-1) secured the win for the Crimson Tide (14-11, 3-4 SEC) entering the game to relieve starter Austin Hyatt in the seventh inning with UA clinging to a 5-3 lead. He allowed two of the three inherited runners to score as Ole Miss (15-10, 3-4 SEC) tied the score at 5-5.
The game came down to the last pitch and Bentley's game-winning homer off Ole Miss closer Scott Bittle to give the Tide a 6-5 lead. Bittle (1-1) gave up one run and one hit in three innings of relief and struck out five UA batters in the loss.
The two teams will meet for the second game of the three-game series on Saturday at 4:05 p.m.
