An autopsy will be performed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab on the body of a teenager who collapsed during cross country practice at a high school in southwest Georgia.
Authorities have NOT released the name of the 16-year-old boy who collapsed yesterday at Seminole County High School. He was running not far from the school as practice started.
Authorities say a nurse driving down the road saw him collapse and performed CPR. He was pronounced dead at Donalsonville Hospital.
Seminole County Sheriff Jerry Godby says all activities at the school were halted after the student collapsed.
The principal and school superintendent released a statement calling the boy -- quote -- "an outstanding example of all that is good and right in our young people today."
Grief counselors are on hand at the school this morning.
