The ASA Tournament features some of the best competition in the southeast.
"We've got some of the toughest competition playing in the country here," one coach said.
"I think this is one of the toughest tournaments if not the toughest tournament that we've been in," another said.
Teams from Alabama and surrounding states compete for a spot in the national tournament, but one team is playing for more.
The North Alabama Kraze 14 and under team is playing for Makenzy Cain, who was diagnosed with lymphoma last week. Her sister Makayley still plays for the team and her family.
"At first I didn't think I'd be able to do it, and I realized I should be able to focus on the game and try to win it for her," Makayley said.
"It's more for supporting Kay Kay and her family and helping her sister fight through this disease," assistant coach Nicole Bobrowski said.
Players, coaches and parents wear green ribbons like these to show their support for Makenzy and her battle with this terminal illness.
"We're wearing green ribbons because that's the color of lymphoma cancer," Makayley said. "We're also wearing purple shoe strings because that's my sister's favorite color."
Playing for Makenzy gives hope to the team and to her.
"It gives us more enthusiasm to play for a good cause," Bobrowski said.
"It makes us want to work harder. It makes me want to work harder to try and win, not just for the trophy, but for the feeling that we play for Makenzy," Makayley said.
And it gives this season more value than just wins and losses.
