TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama coach Nick Saban has hired Tim Davis as director of player personnel and promoted defensive coaches Kevin Steele and Kirby Smart.
Saban said today Steele has been promoted from defensive coordinator to associate head coach in charge of defense. Defensive backs coach/assistant head coach Kirby Smart becomes defensive coordinator.
Steele interviewed with South Alabama for its new head coaching position. Saban said Smart turned down an opportunity to become defensive coordinator at another school.
Davis, who worked as assistant offensive line coach under Saban for two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, replaces Geoff Collins.
Collins left to become linebackers coach at Central Florida.
