TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama football player charged with robbing two fellow students at gunpoint outside a dormitory returned home to Georgia after being released on bond and, according to his lawyer is "distraught" over what happened.
Jeremy Elder, a 19-year-old redshirt freshman, went home to College Park with the approval of a judge.
Elder was released on $60,000 bond yesterday after being arrested in an alleged holdup that occurred in the parking lot of Bryant Hall on the University of Alabama campus about 11 p.m. Saturday. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound player allegedly confronted two students with a weapon and stole $26.
Coach Nick Saban said in a statement that Elder was indefinitely suspended from the team, and attorney Josh Swords said the university had sent a preliminary notice suspending him from classes.
Swords said Elder has a clean record and will seek youthful offender status.
