Alabama Freshman Lineman Arrested on Robbery Charges

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama freshman defensive lineman Jeremy Elder has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.

Elder was arrested Sunday and remained jailed Monday on $120,000 bond.

Two male Alabama students reported to campus police Saturday night that they were robbed by a gun-wielding man, who took cash from one of them.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Elder has been "indefinitely suspended from all football-related activities." Saban says he won't make any announcement on Elder's future status with the team until he has reviewed all the information.

The two students reported a male approached them with a gun as they walked to their vehicle in the Small Group Housing parking lot shortly after 11 p.m. Elder was redshirted last season.

Under state law, first-degree robbery involves either a "deadly weapon or dangerous instrument" or someone causing "serious physical injury to another." Both charges are Class A felonies.
