B'ham native earns first victory in almost eight years

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Birmingham native Steve Lowery birdied the first playoff hole to beat Vijay Singh at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

It's the third career victory for Lowery, and his first since the 2000 Southern Farm Bureau Classic.

Lowery shot a 4-under-par 68 to make up three shots on Singh in the final round. Singh bogeyed three straight holes on the back nine and needed a birdie on 18 to force the playoff.

Lowery earned $1.08 million and a two-year exemption.
